Interview christian prudhomme

"Rotterdam has raised the bar by turning Le Grand Départ into a fantastic party." Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme was full of praise for the special start of his Tour in Rotterdam.

Heartfelt emotions were displayed on the Erasmus Bridge where the riders stopped just after noon for a last official moment in Rotterdam. While the Marine Band played the French (Marseillaise) and Dutch (Wilhelmus) national anthems, mayor Aboutaleb thanked the whole team for their support. A few tears were even shed. Christian Prudhomme also appeared to have a lump in his throat. The Tour director thoroughly enjoyed everything Rotterdam had to offer the past few days. And to top it off, the first stage was turned into an unrivalled event.

With former cyclist Teun van Vliet at their side, Ahmed Aboutaleb, Christian Prudhomme and Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende ceremoniously cut the tape. With the party in full swing, the Tour chief quipped how he hated to say goodbye to Rotterdam as he smiled a friendly smile and expressed a sincere 'merci beaucoup'. The Erasmus Bridge was swarming with people. Le Grand Départ Rotterdam 2010 attracted nearly a million spectators!
